While the public perception of fraternities shaped by the media primarily focuses on negative incidents, we know the positive value men gain from their fraternity experience is an often untold story. The myFraternity Campaign is an opportunity to raise the volume on and amplify the hundreds of thousands of positive stories of fraternity.
myFraternity is a proactive campaign for fraternity men to share their personal stories about how their fraternity has provided support, engaged them in service, helped them grow or in other ways enriched their lives in other ways. The campaign will begin with a kick-off social media day on Wednesday, September 12, and continue forward to share the successes of fraternity undergraduates, chapters and alumni through various channels of communication.
When I went to college, I did not know what a fraternity was. I went through rush at three different fraternities but wasn't that excited about them. Partly because it was so new to me. Then a good friend of mine invited me over to the Alpha Gamma Rho House at KSU and I felt at home and decided to pledge. Being in the fraternity, not only taught me manners from the house mother but also built lasting friendships with my Brothers who I still connect with today. If you stay in a dorm, when you leave the university, you are leaving a room. When you leave a fraternity, you are leaving a family. They also ban together to help each other get elected to groups like Ag Council or Student Senate. I tribute my involvement in the fraternity for getting elected to Student Senate and other University positions. That is where I learned leadership which has helped me during my career. You also learn the importance of studying to get good grades. That is why the GPA of Fraternities and Sororities have a high overall grade point.
