Happy Founders’ Day to Beta Sigma Zeta Sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority & Delta Upsilon Fraternity!

The anniversary of November 4th is shared by three distinct Greek letter organizations. One is a small multicultural sorority based in New York, one is a national Panhellenic sorority, and the third is a large prominent international fraternity. In addition to the November 4th founding date, the three organizations clearly demonstrate a strong bond among its members and a dedication to fraternity and sorority life.

Beta Sigma Zeta Multicultural Sorority, Inc. was founded by two young women in 1999 at SUNY Cobleskill. Multiculturalism is something these women hold near to their hearts since both have diverse family backgrounds. With a determination to improve their communities as well as further spread their multicultural message, the sorority expanded to five schools in New York State. The organization is "A sisterhood consisting of Strong, Dominant, Independent Women." Members are called “Betas” and refer to each other as “Queens.” Beta Sigma Zeta Sorority’s colors are red, gold and white and its mascot is the panther.

Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1899 at the Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) by eight women. Alpha Sigma Tau notes itself as being organized as the third oldest educational sorority. The organization's colors are emerald green and gold, its symbol is the anchor, and its official flower is the Yellow Rose. The sorority's official service project is Habitat for Humanity. Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority has a total of more than 80 active chapters and colonies nationwide and is a member of the National Panhellenic Council.

Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1834 by 30 students at Williams College in northwestern Massachusetts. Delta Upsilon is the sixth oldest international, all-male, college Greek letter organization. It was founded as a non-secret fraternity opposing the secret societies of the time. The fraternity’s mission is “Building Better Men.” Among its members, Delta Upsilon Fraternity includes James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, and Joseph P. Kennedy, Ambassador to Great Britain and father of two senators and a U.S. President. The fraternity has 76 active chapters and has had a total of 155 chapters since its inception.

If you know of another organization that was founded on November 4th that was not mentioned above, please comment below.
