On this date, in 1856, Theta Chi Fraternity was founded as the Theta Chi Society at Norwich University in Norwich, Vermont. Theta Chi is one of the oldest and largest fraternities in North America. It was founded by two military cadets and its early history is connected to the history of Norwich University. At one time, in 1881, the university had only 15 enrolled male students of which only one was a member of Theta Chi. The fraternity managed to remain active and grow to the international organization it is today. Theta Chi's motto is "An Assisting Hand" and the fraternity has about 131 active undergraduate chapters. Happy 154th founding anniversary to all members of Theta Chi Fraternity!
